DIY fabric bookmark

Here's the perfect sewing project for a beginner, It's all right angles and straight lines so nothing complicated and you can even make it reversible!

YOU WILL NEED:

-Fabric of your choice, two pieces 7" by 3"
-Ribbon 6"
-Batting 7" by 3"
-Pins

STEP ONE:

Lay your batting down with one piece of fabric face up on top, then put your ribbon folded on top and pin in place, then add your final piece of fabric (face down) on top.

STEP TWO:

Pin your layers together, and if it helps mark along the edges where you are going to sew, you want to leave about a 7mm seam allowance. Now sew along these lines, be sure to leave an opening so you can turn it inside out. Once you get to a corner, leave the needle in the fabric, raise the foot and turn the fabric left or right to meet your new line, this creates a clean right angle! Also use reverse to finish off the start and finish of your sewing.

STEP THREE:

Once you've sewn it all, remove the needles and cut the edges to make it easier to get your points when you turn it inside out! I would then suggest you press your bookmark with an iron to make it easier to sew the final seam!

STEP FOUR:

This is an optional step, but I like to sew a final seam around the edges to give it a polished look and to sew up the open gap. Happy Reading!
